Gas Meter and Service Inspections

Gas Meter and Service Inspections

Corning Natural Gas will be in your area over the next several months conducting a safety inspection of your natural gas meter and service line piping to ensure the safe delivery of natural gas to your home or business. Corning Natural Gas is required by the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) to perform periodic leak and corrosion inspections. The inspections will check for gas leaks, and evaluate the condition of the service line piping and meter set located at your home.

If your Corning Natural Gas meter is located outside, your inspection will have only an outside component. If your gas meter is located inside, we will be inspecting the service line and meter set located inside your home. We will be utilizing a third-party Company named RECONN for the outside inspection. They will be completing the outside work on behalf of Corning Natural Gas and should not require access to the inside of your home.

Corning Natural Gas employees will be performing the inside portion of the inspections. The Corning Natural Gas employee completing the inside inspection will introduce themselves and display a white Corning Natural Gas identification badge before entering your home. You can expect to see inspectors in your neighborhood Monday through Saturday 8:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. If you would like to make an appointment to have this inspection completed, please contact our customer service department at 607-936-3755.

Our inspectors will use a combustible gas indicator to detect gas leakage and complete a visual inspection for corrosion on all exposed piping connected to the natural gas meter inside your home. The inspection takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. If, during the inspection an issue requiring repair is found on the meter set or service line, the technician will remain on site and complete a repair.

If you are not available, and we are unable to access the meter and/or service line at the time of the inspection, we will leave a doorhanger and attempt to make a second visit later. We want to stress that these safety inspections are mandatory to ensure your safety. If we are unable to access your meter, gas supply to your home could be interrupted and a fee may be imposed until your service line pipe has been inspected.

We appreciate your cooperation during this program. For additional information about the specific regulation requiring Corning Natural Gas to complete these inspections, please refer to the PSC website: http://www.dps.ny.gov by searching Case Number 15-G-0244.
