Gas Meter and Service Line Safety Inspections

Gas Meter and Service Line Safety Inspections

Corning Natural Gas completes mandatory safety inspections of natural gas meters and service line piping. These inspections are required by the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) and are essential to ensure the continued safe delivery of natural gas to your home or business.

What to Expect:

  • Purpose of Inspection: Our team will check for gas leaks and evaluate the condition of your service line and meter set for signs of corrosion or other safety concerns.
  • Outside Meters: If your meter is located outdoors, the inspection will be completed without entering your home.
  • Inside Meters: If your meter is located inside, our inspectors will need access to your home to complete the inspection of the service line and meter set.

  • who will perform the inspections?

  • Outdoor Inspections: A third-party company, RECONN, will perform exterior inspections on behalf of Corning Natural Gas. These inspectors will not require access to the inside of your home. However, they may require access to your yard if you have buried gas pipe.
  • Indoor Inspections: Corning Natural Gas employees will complete all interior inspections. Our employees will identify themselves and present a white Corning Natural Gas ID badge before entering your home.

Inspectors may be working in your neighborhood Monday through Saturday, between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. If you'd prefer to schedule an appointment, please contact our Customer Service Department at 607-936-3755 .

  • Missed Inspections

If we are unable to access your meter or service line, a door hanger will be left, and a second visit will be attempted.

Please note: These inspections are mandatory. Failure to complete them may result in interruption of gas service and possible fees until access is provided.

We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and reliable natural gas system. For more information on the regulations requiring these inspections, please visit the PSC website at http://www.dps.ny.gov by searching Case Number 15-G-0244.
