Computershare, Our Transfer Agent

What is a Transfer Agent?

A transfer agent is a financial services company that maintains records on behalf of a company’s registered shareholders.  In addition to recordkeeping, they may handle communications for corporations and shareholders; issue dividends and shares at the direction of the corporation; and sell or transfer shares, and replace lost paper certificates at the direction of shareholders. They can also assist with annual shareholder meetings and distribution of materials, among many other services.

Computershare, as our transfer agent, has a “Transfer Agent Overview" white paper that may help you understand their role more clearly.

If your shares are held with our transfer agent, you are a registered shareholder. The benefits of being a registered shareholder are:

  • Free or low-cost access to transactions
  • No or low fees for company stock transactions (the company covers most of these)
  • Direct access to the Dividend Reinvestment Plan (DRIP)
  • Online access to your account(s) and an 800 phone number
  • Fast turnaround on most services
